Radio cabinet bar

Low Prices on a Huge Array of Home Bar Cabinets. My latest makeover was turning an old radio cabinet into a bar. It is fun to turn outdated furniture pieces into some sort of bar.


Everyone is always looking for a mini bar to add to their living areas. And I started with this vintage radio turned bar cabinet. This won’t be shocking to you I’m sure, but this piece was my great grandfather’s.


I know, well as we all know, the motto in my family seems to be, “Just give the stuff no one wants to Jenna. Rare Philco bar cabinet with built-in radio. Barware includes original Dorothy Thorpe glassware.


Swing in or swing out bar shelves are in perfect working condition. Wood is believed to be walnut and burl wood with a maple inlay. I found this old radio cabinet at a garage sale and I knew it would have to become a bar of some type. I decided I would keep it for myself and turn in into a coffee bar. While I don’t see us having martinis every night, it would serve as a place to store beverage supplies with a classy look.


The entire back of the cabinet is open and I decided to leave it that way to make the bar usable from the front and back. A person can tend bar from behind the bar or have access to most of the storage from the front as well. I like playing my old records, but if you wanted you could hide a bar in this piece. My plan is to walk you through all the steps we took to restore, refinish, and alter the Zenith radio cabinet we found at an estate sale into the final item that is currently sitting in my library. I apparently don’t go flea marketing nearly enough, because I never seem to stumble upon those really cool old vintage finds, like this old radio cabinet that Megan from The Charming Farmer recently converted. She went bold with the style and the coloring, and turned an antique radio box into a super cool martini bar.

The radio shown on top of a file cabinet is a. Includes working fish tank in place of TV Tube. Can be used a unique liquor display bar , cameo or book cabinet. I like the design over the speaker grill cloth. As the radio no longer worke I began by gutting the inside.


Radios from the Swing Era. In order to turn it into a hidden bar I had to add a shelf inside of the cabinet (as there was no bottom). I also added a hinged door to enclose the piece. Here’s how we fixed up this repurposed radio cabinet : Originally the door stayed closed just by rubbing against the bottom of the door frame – not good! I added a little wood block inside and attached a new magnetic closure (see below), and then sanded the door frame enough to stop the rubbing.

Piece measures wide x deep x tall. Some radio cabinets were shaded all over, others were. This is normally a brown wooden cabinet with glass panels behind which you can display ornaments and other items.


The top of the cabinet can be used for candles, flowers, books or anything else you would like to display. I was over the moon when I saw this awesome radio cabinet for sale on Craigslist. I’ve been hiding a deep, dark secret.
