I misread a blog post two years ago! Yes…us DIYers do make mistakes and this one I was completely to blame. If you would like to stain the countertops , you can do coats of the Feather Finish product and then coats of ARDEX ’s SD-M product. The Feather Finish will not accept stain evenly, but the SD-M will.


I used the same sealer as you di but did not use the 511-Impregnator Seal first. Over a year ago Laura did a countertop feather finish. We have had our countertops years total. We initially painted over the concrete when I read a tutorial wrong. We covered our counters for the second time about two years after doing them.


It’s not easy to come by, but you can hunt for a local distributor on their site or just follow this affiliate link to get it on Amazon. I think we applied it a bit thicker than necessary. It has turned out really great. The sanding was difficult, but well worth it.


Ardex Feather Finish , obviously. We just put on a coat of water-based acrylic sealer. Do you have any tips on how long you waited in between coats? It works really well and is holding up well.


Doing these concrete countertops was the most challenging projects we took on (besides refinishing the floors of course) but also one of my favorites. I couldn’t find anything about applying feather finish concrete over tile counters anywhere, so I improvised! It was very inexpensive and looks awesome! So I guess they worked out.

Epoxy sealer is really the only way to go, I used Epmar’s Kemiko Sta-Crete sealer in water clear. In gathering our ideas for the new studio space, we realized that we would finally have a chance to try our own concrete countertop DIY. We loved reading about this DIY countertop last year and were so impressed that we wanted to try it ourselves. I love concrete counters , but the cost and the labor to pour concrete just did not seem like a good option for us. Update: Because I only recently made these counters for a limited-use space, it’s not 1 fair for me to recommend this method in a kitchen application.


I don’t know how it would hold up with constant use. Sold as a countertop kit, you mix part A with part B (already pre-measured) and roll right onto the countertops. Up next for your viewing and learning pleasure are our new concrete countertops ! Use your finger to smooth out the corners where countertop meets wall, as these joints are hard to sand smooth. I smiled to myself, remembering when I first saw those pins and thought rather smugly, “Oh, we could totally do that! I never thought about using it on countertops as a surface but it would make sense that it would work.

After brain storming, we decided we could use the sink itself as part of the forms to POUR concrete right over our laminate. The bagged concrete that you mix in large batches wouldn’t be ideal unless you planned on pouring your countertops using molds. Use for flash-patching, skim-coating and to fill in ridges, gouges, depressions and seams on virtually any type of subfloor.


You may have seen DIY concrete countertops all over Pinterest (and here and here on Remodelaholic!). In terms of feather finish. I was thinking about grouting the whole thing to cover the grooves plus tile, then sand to a real fine finish but not sure after that.


I also HATE the tile squares especially as a kitchen counter top. It’s countertop safe and makes feather. So we’ve been living with the feather - finish concrete countertop island for almost a year. I still love it because it was sooooo inexpensive. I would prefer a faux carrera marble solid surface material…but that wasn’t in the budget and still isn’t.


The main decision that was really still undecided was my countertops. Underlayment Patch and Skimcoat is a Portland cement-based floor Patch and Skimcoat. ARDEX Americas ARDEX FEATHER FINISH ARDEX FEATHER FINISH may be used as an embossing filler when mixed with. No longer do drips leave longstanding discolorations on the surface (picture water soaking into a concrete walkway outside and looking dark for hours).


Countertop 7is a natural finish ,. You just have to toe nail the two bits together, include a hook regarding hanging the inventory, and decorate many people however you desir.
