This style should not be confused with actual laminate countertops. There are many combinations of the laminated edges. If you see a countertop that looks like it is extra thick, there is a good change that it has a mitered edge. A mitered edge is thicker than the rest of the countertop so it gives the appearance that the entire countertop is thicker than it is. Beveled edge is also available in Formica brand laminate.


The classic method of dealing with unfinished countertop edges is known as edge banding, and the most common form of banding are strips of the same laminate used for the top. Heat can damage laminate countertops , so be sure to protect them from hot pots, pans, etc. Self- edging , or straight edging , is the traditional laminate edging used for countertops and is the only one that can be created by a fabricator on the job site. This edge creates a brown line that is especially noticeable on light, solid-colored counters.


Postform laminate countertops are made with a pre-formed backsplash and edges so that the laminate can be rolled over to create a single, directional, seamless piece of laminate. Postform countertops are different from custom laminate countertops for this reason. Chances are that the edges of the cuts will be slightly rough. We offer three different custom edge upgrades.


These tops are different from self edge tops in that there is a separate, pre-manufactured strip of beveled laminate ,wood edging or crescent round edge applied to the front. For a minimal cost, decorative edges can be created by carefully cutting the countertops so they are not square or by adding a different colour or material along the edge. But laminate is also vulnerable to damage such as scratches, stains and peeling.


Updated Edge Profiles New, more sophisticated edge profiles are available on some post-formed laminate countertops , similar to what’s available with solid surface, stone and other countertop choices.
