What paint to use on countertops

The paint is designed to cover laminate, solid-surface, ceramic tile, wood or cultured-marble countertops. The result is a seamless surface that transforms the look of the kitchen. The striations and colors will differ each time you use the product, so it’s best to tackle the whole kitchen at once so that you develop a relatively consistent.


Once you have primed the countertops , you can use a satin or semi-gloss oil-based enamel. If you are painting over a laminate countertop , then you will need to sand down the surface. Wipe away remaining dust, then dry the countertop before painting the countertop with a primer and paint roller. Apply one to two coats of paint and then seal the surface with polyurethane after the paint has dried. Use a brush to apply the counter paint in corners and crevices, but a foam roller is the best way to get a smooth finish on the counter’s flat areas.


Avoid creating lap lines with the roller as you work across the counter. You can always give your old countertop a new look using paint. Wipe down the countertop with paint thinner to make sure they are completely clean before you start painting. Use the solution they provided. I cannot stress the importance of this step enough. Using water is not recommended for countertops though, but the video will help you. This paint is strong stuff and it is supposed to harden and leave an enamel-like finish. You definitely don’t want your tape stuck under it.


After I took off the tape, I did a few touch-ups with my brush on the countertops and even had to break out the wall paint and touch up some spots there–from this project and painting the cabinets. But if you use a traditional water- or oil-based paint , a topcoat is a necessary to protect. Sand the surface of the counters lightly. Wooden surfaces take paint well and only need light sanding to grip the primer and paint. Do not use the countertop surface for at least hours for best.

Because counters are subject to a lot of wear and tear, be sure to apply the paint in thin coats, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying another.
